Mirrored Image

Mirrored Image was one of Sydney’s hardest working, unsigned bands of the early 1980s. The band were constantly working at close to seven shows a week.

Mirrored Image was fronted by sisters Christine Mullane and Tracy Mullane. The band played a mixture of original material and hard rock covers with material from Heart and Pat Benatar.

Rob Manego from my days in Peculiar Clerk joined the band as their Bass Player in early 1984 not long after Peculiar Clerk decided to call it a day in February.

I met up with Lyndsay Ladiges and Ray Llyod Jones from Mirrored Image at a music convention of some sort, although my memory is a tad fuzzy here. They had plenty of work and were looking for a Bass Player. I told them Rob was available and shortly thereafter he joined the band. I went and saw the band a number of times and took my camera with me, so the images below without me in it, are taken by me.

Mirrored Image was a tight professional band, and all players were top notch, in particular Lindsay and Ray, whom I was soon to replace.

This line up was very slick musically, but after a period of time Ray Lloyd Jones departed the band and I got the call from Rob to see if I was interested. I  was, and after a few rehearsals with the band I went out on the road and joined the madness that was touring seven nights a week and trying to keep a day job!

Gary Landesman the drummer decided to leave shortly after I joined and then Lindsay too. Keeping musicians  seemed to be a constant battle for the band. Gary was replaced by Rob Grosser from The Aliens and Boss, Lindsay was replaced by someone who’s name I do not recall.

My time in Mirrored Image was without a doubt the craziest time of my musical life. The band worked hard, very hard, but they also played hard and it was starting to take a toll on each member in its own way.

The band was booked to do a two week cruise on the Fairstar with John Paul Young and that proved to be the last gigs both myself and Rob did with the band. The Fairstar was a grueling schedule of two shows a night, one at each end of the ship! JPY however only did two shows up on deck. Such is life!
