Welcome to Steve Lees Music. I have been a musician since the early 1980s playing a number of bands on the Sydney Circuit from the early 1980s through to the early 1990s. I played in Sydney bands The Identities, a new wave band, and from there I joined Peculiar Clerk which was where I did most of my live work during the 1980s. After the demise of Peculiar Clerk, I joined Mirrored Image and worked seven nights a week while trying to hold down a day job, which was rough going but brilliant at the same time.
After leaving Mirrored Image I started writing with Mirrored Image’s drummer, Rob Grosser and ended up buying a Tascam 244 Portastudio. Even though I had been writing songs for a few years, I really started focusing on writing at this point in time. Shortly after this time I advertised for a singer and the call was answered by Andre Javes, which birthed the band Crimes of Passion. After a short period of time Andre moved into my apartment and we started writing together. Between us we wrote the best material here, and started to form the band that would become Crimes of Passion.
The band was short lived and only ever played the Sydney circuit a few times; our first being a support gig with The Last Stand Chisel Barnes Show at Promises in the Sylvania Hotel followed by three weeks straight at Harbourside Brasserie on Wednesday nights. Our fifth and final gig was supporting the Australian Madonna Show at the Dee Why Hotel. The band went their separate ways but I continued to write. The songs and albums here are a result of those years spent writing and playing.
